Peace

We need to end the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, and refocus our efforts here at home, rather than blindly sending more of our sons and daughters into harm’s way. We need clearly defined parameters for ending these wars and stopping the bloodshed as soon and as safely as possible. I was married to a pilot who flew in Vietnam, and my son is in the Air Force. I’ve spent years living in military communities, and I understand the impact war has on our soldiers. The financial resources deployed for wars overseas could be better allocated here at home.

Send me to Congress and I’ll vote against continued funding for the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan.

I also understand that peace is more than just an end to these wars. We also need a more compassionate foreign policy, which includes sending hospital ships, and providing clean drinking water and medical supplies. The U.S. response to the earthquake in Haiti is a powerful example of what can be achieved when our dedicated, well-trained soldiers and sailors, and airmen are deployed not in war, but in peace.
